Getting started
Who is CityGreen Connect for?
California jurisdictions subject to SB 1383 (cities, counties, and special districts that provide solid waste collection service), along with the haulers and consultants who work with them.
We’re a regional authority. Can CityGreen Connect handle our member agencies?
Yes. Each member agency is set up as its own jurisdiction with its own records and reporting, and the authority sees a rollup across all of them.
How do we get started?
Book a demo. We walk through CityGreen Connect with your obligations in mind and look at where your compliance stands and where the gaps are. There is no obligation, and you are welcome to bring your consultant.
How long does onboarding take?
CityGreen Connect is live from contract start, so your staff can work in it while the CityGreen team handles setup, access, data migration, and training before go-live. In the demo we scope a timeline for your jurisdiction.
Can we start with one program instead of everything at once?
Yes. Most jurisdictions start somewhere specific, usually the Implementation Record or inspections, and expand from there. What makes sense first depends on where your gaps are, which is what the demo assessment is for.
What does it cost?
Pricing scales with the size of your jurisdiction and the programs you run, and there is no per-user charge, so everyone who needs access can have it. The demo gets you a scoped recommendation and a straight answer on cost, with no obligation.
We already use another compliance system. How hard is it to switch?
Your history comes with you. During onboarding, the CityGreen team moves your records into CityGreen Connect, including photos and documents your current system won’t export in bulk, and attaches them to the right records, so your staff does not start over mid-cycle.
Your records
Does CityGreen Connect replace our current records, or import them?
Both. Your existing records and historical program data are brought into CityGreen Connect during onboarding, so you keep your continuity instead of starting over.
We already track this in spreadsheets. What actually changes?
Two things. The record stops depending on the person who built the spreadsheet, and related records stay linked: a complaint, the inspection it triggered, the violation issued, and the resolution are one case rather than four files. That link is what compliance reviews ask about and what folders cannot hold.
Will our record hold up in a CalRecycle review?
The Implementation Record is organized by the regulation’s own requirements, with the citation on every line and the supporting documents attached, so a reviewer can follow it the way they would follow the regulations.
Is our data separate from other jurisdictions?
Yes. Every jurisdiction’s records are isolated and access-controlled. Your staff, your consultants, and your haulers each see what their role allows.
How is our data protected?
Access is controlled by user roles you assign. Software code is maintained in version control, and the database is backed up automatically every day, with backups retained for 14 days.
What happens to our data if we leave?
Your data stays yours. You can export your records to Excel at any time, and if you leave, we provide a complete export, including uploaded documents.
Working with haulers and consultants
Can our haulers submit data directly?
Yes. Haulers submit collected tonnage, customer compliance, education and outreach distribution, and construction and demolition data through structured forms tied to your jurisdiction, so it arrives attributed rather than as a spreadsheet to reconcile.
Our hauler serves several cities. Does their data get mixed up?
No. Submissions from a hauler serving multiple jurisdictions are attributed to the correct jurisdiction, so shared-hauler tonnage does not merge across the cities they serve.
Can our consultant work in CityGreen Connect with us?
Yes. Consultants and contractors get their own access, granted per jurisdiction, so they work in the same record as your staff instead of a copy of it. You decide how much they see: a contractor who only handles edible food recovery can be limited to that section, and you can change it at any time.
Day to day
Does it work in the field?
Yes. Inspectors capture findings and photos on a phone against the right record, and the office tracker reflects them without anyone re-keying paper forms. The mobile forms already cover the standard SB 1383 checklist, and we review them with you during onboarding to match your fields.
How does CityGreen Connect help with the August 1 annual report?
By making it an act of reading rather than assembly. Hauler tonnage, inspections, route reviews, education, and procurement are captured as they happen, so the figures the report needs already exist when the deadline arrives.
Is CityGreen Connect only useful for SB 1383?
SB 1383 is what most jurisdictions come for, but the platform covers solid waste program management more broadly: complaints, hauler oversight, self-haul permits, construction and demolition, and reporting that outlives any single regulation.
